"We must improve our visitor experience" is something I hear about a lot in tourism.
But sometimes, to make real breakthroughs, we need an outside perspective.
While I was at Tourism Bay of Plenty we collaborated with UBCO to learn from their product development experts and shared it with a wider group of RTO product developers.
While UBCO's physical product is very different to an experience or service based business, they shared values around sustainability and prioritising target markets (not trying to make everyone your customer) which aided in making their concepts transferrable.
In the never-ending pursuit of building a better visitor experience, rather than simply looking at the competition or what someone else is doing in the same field, a completely different lens can be the key to unlocking new value.
