The next gondola for Queenstown... Coronet Peak?

We've been waiting a long time to see who will build New Zealand's first ski area access gondola.

Potential locations like The Remarkables, Treble Cone, and Snow Farm have been mooted for years.

However, Coronet Peak stands out as a logical choice but surprisingly under recognised choice.

The big reason that it stand out above these other locations is the all-year-round mountain biking potential (plus the obvious more efficient and lower emissions ski area access).

This aligns with global trends in lift operations and is timely given the resurgence of visitor numbers to Queenstown.

From a construction point of view, this lift is also a lot more straight forward than those other locations - a clear area at the bottom, enough room at the top and a direct lift line.

As an iconic ski destination, Coronet Peak is well-suited to be New Zealand's pioneer in ski/mountain bike access gondolas and pave the way to prove this is a model that will work in New Zealand.

While the project isn't ready to go yet (see article for details) it's taking the first step.
