Tourism merch could be the biggest opportunity (increase avg spend)
Tourism merch could be the biggest opportunity for a lot businesses to increase their average spend per customer.
When guests are in-the-moment and emotionally engaged, they are much less price sensitive*.
Unfortunately in most cases, gift shops and merchandise aren't done right.
High value/s visitors don't want tacky plastic souvenirs that they know aren't going to last.
They want to buy good things to remember great experiences.
A high-value visitor wants well-designed, quality items to remember their experience with you.
And the best time to capture this is when they're emotionally charged - during, or immediately after an experience, in a curated environment that is congruent with your business.
Not in a over-filled store full of throw-away souvenirs that has the same stuff as all the other gift shops.
It needs to be part of what you do.
Spending a little bit of time to incorporate thoughtful, sustainable mementos that align with your business, as part of your wider experience, is well worth it.
Guests want the opportunity to buy, you've just got to give them a good reason to do it.
