In 2011 I asked my boss if I could set up the mountain bike operation at Skyline.

He said yes but there's a catch - you've got 4 months to make it work or find a new job.

“If you don’t integrate mountain biking with the sightseeing business, we can’t keep operating".

It made sense; you don't want to blow your main business because of something new.

That 4 month trial season changed my life and provided foundational lessons in launching a new tourism experience.

It also changed Queenstown summers forever as we rode a wave of mountain biking development.

To see it still pumping year on year is a rush.

Imagine what mountain biking in Queenstown will be like in another 10 years...
